Fried Prawns is a kind of dish a non-vegetarian always enjoy. The combination of fried prawns and Thai spices result in a refreshing flavourful dish. This recipe is inspired from the dish I had in a small Thai restaurant near my house during my stay in Shanghai.The original dish was made with fried Crab, but at home it is easier to prepare the dish with Prawns. Without much ado please find below the recipe to prepare this flavorful dish.
Prep Time: 30 mins Cooking Time : 40 mins Serving : 4 person
Ingredients:
- 500 gm Prawns( deviened and peeled)
- 1 egg
- 1 cup refined flour
- 1/4 cup corn flour
- Pinch of baking soda
- Freshly ground black pepper
- 3 stalk of Lemon grass finely chopped
- 2 Garlic buds peeled and chopped
- Couple of Kaffir lime leaves (or Gandhoraj lebu leaves)
- 1 large piece of Kaffir limes (or Gandhoraj lebu)
- 3 large onions finely chopped
- 3 table spoon Galangal root chopped
- Couple of chilies chopped
- 2 tsp fish sauce
- Oil for deep frying
- Water
- Marinate the prawns with 1 tsp of garlic paste, freshly ground pepper and salt
- Make a thick batter with both the types of flours , egg , salt and baking soda and little water
- Add the prawns and coat them well
- Deep fry them until golden brown, remove and keep aside
- In a separate pan add 3 table spoon of oil , once the oil heated up add Kaffir limes, lemon grass, chilies, garlic, onions, galangal, chilies. Fry them well on medium high flame.
- Add the fish sauce, then add the fried prawns. Mix everything well. Remove from heat.
- Plate the dish and sprinkle few drops of lime juice and serve the dish with steam rice
Note:
- Tear the kaffir lime leaves always to bring out more flavour
- Add generous amount of chopped garlic, which is the key ingredient
- Keep the flame medium high to get crisp result
